Just what is the REAL Christian Perspective?

Posted by on December 23, 2004

“real Christian Perspective”…hehehe…thanks to the one who said this to me! That’s both a challenge as well as an encouragement. That’s another reason why I put this thing up. I work with a bunch of fabulous Christian people that seem to think the world is all Love and Light. It REALLY gets on my nerves sometimes because I know it just ain’t so. I read and hear the radio preachers(Swindoll, Jeremiah, et al) and like what they have to say but it just seems that, like my local preachers, everyone is afraid to get down to the basics at the Alter. My favorite Christian band is Waterdeep because there is no pretense in their music. They sing about life with all the warts in plane view. I like to hear about the blessings people receive like the cancer tumor disappearing and the soon to be mother realizing something she didn’t think possible. I also like to hear about how the man deals with his failure to walk away from the temptress or the woman coming to terms with her wild past. I think the latter shows us more of what the Walk is about than the former. Jesus told alot of fantastic parables and explained things in stark detail to his disciples but it wasn’t until he was nailed to the Cross that we all got the message.

I believe Christians today are too caught up with what Jesus SAID and have put his Crucifixion and Resurrection on the back burner. Don’t get me wrong, I think the teachings of Jesus are supremely important but they are meaningless if you look past the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Many MANY people quote the Bible and say it is full of “good teachings” and some will even go so far as to correctly claim it to be the Word of God. When you start asking about just what the Resurrection means you may get blank stares or some VERY big words taught in seminaries around the world. The ordinary people in the world have no idea what these words mean and glaze over when they hear them and therefore the Crucifixion and Resurrection remain in the darker corners of Christian discussion…just as our lives in the real world remain in the dark corners of Christian discussion.

I wanted this site to be a place where folks can see the Christian life lived out…with all the warts in plane view. I don’t even come CLOSE to claiming to be perfect. Saul of Tarsus had NOTHING on me when it comes to Sin. My political rants expose my sinfulness and really need no comment. Please understand, I’m not saying that I don’t believe what I write and I am CERTAINLY not saying I am wrong for saying it…what I *AM* saying is that I cross the line often…just like everyone else..Believer and NonBeliever alike. I pray for my Forgiveness and KNOW that I’m forgiven because of the Cross and my faith in what it symbolizes. If the Non Believing reader is concerned about forgiveness, concerned about hisher relationship with God, or are just interested in plane answers about the Christian Faith PLEASE drop me a note in comments or here and if I don’t know the answer I’ll find it for you.

Thanks again Dave for the inspiration for this entry!
