SEALs Sue AP over publication of photos

Posted by on December 29, 2004

Well well well…It seems that SEALs got alittle upset with the newsies who published photos “depicting abuse” of Iraqi detainees. The wife of one of the guys has filed suit against AP and Seth Hettena, the reporter who filed the story.

The suit alleges the photos were taken from a personal website without the owners permission. Fancy that! I believe that’s called copyright infringement.

The suit goes on to allege that revealing the identities of the SEAL operators was not necessary to the story. For those of you who do not understand the JSOC doctrine, revealing the identity of a JSOC operator pretty much kills that operator’s ability to perform undercover…like our CIA and DELTA operators did in Afghanistan which led to the quick end to that battle in the War on Terror.

Whether or not the photos depict abuse, I trust the operators on the ground otherwise the Navy JAG wouldn’t allow them to file this suit, the copyright infringement is an interesting angle. I’ve had it with the newsies in general whether it’s CBS, NBC, or FOXNEWS so I wouldn’t be too upset to see this Mr. Hettena get his.

Be Proud SEALs! We love ya.
