My sentiments exactly. There was already an investigation going on. Obey and Israel were not nearly as concerned with the Air Force as they were with making political hay by engaging in Christian bashing.

After all, universities receive billions of dollars in federal monies every year, and they engage in very severe anti-Christian activities. Obey and Israel have said nothing about these anti-Christian abuses, which make anything that was/is going on at the USAFA pale in comparison.

Skippy-San -

I understand exactly where you are coming from and actually agree with you on Mr. Robertson.

My point was two fold.

First, the Academy should handle this internally and if they can't then it's DoD. If THAT fails then Congress can get involved. *THAT'S* the was it should work...not Congressman Obey et al jumping into the middle of an ongoing investigation.

Second, there is CLEARLY an anti-christian front out there. It's in the news all the time. Ten Commandments can't be displayed in any public setting, high school kids can't pray in schools, Baccalaureate ceremonies can't mention God. Congressman Hostettler's remarks are a breath of fresh air for me. I don't think he was defending the actions of those at the USAF Academy who were being stupid. I do think he saw right through Obey's amendment though.

Give me a break!I attended a military college in the heart of the deep south. I had to put up with this type of evangelism all the time. You just learned to ignore it and move on. However the administration of the college knew well enough also to ignore it. It appears that the folks at USAFA did not. That's where they crossed the line.

Putting up banners like "Team Jesus Christ is over the line" Faith should remain a private matter. Plus I Evagelical Christianity has a very subtle bias against those who do not follow word for word the "party line". I got to sit through plenty of Sermons in Baptists churchs that had not so subtle anti-Catholic biases.

Its not "demonizing" Christianity to ask you guys to shut up and leave me and others alone. The cadets are there to learn "Caesars" things. Whatever religious activities they want to pursue should be private and in any way endorsed by the administration.

You guys should look closely at the founding fathers. They had more in common with me than that buffoon Pat Robertson.

I think that pretty much sums it up. However, I think Hostettler should have done a "B-1" Bob Dornan: he should have stuck with his original remarks, taken a censure--which is little more than a slap on the wrist.

I would not put Hostettler's remarks in the same ballpark as Durbin's remarks. In fact, Obey and Israel--and people of their ilk--are acting in manners more in place with the old Soviet Union.

Why do I say this? In the old Soviet Union, most Christians were not actively persecuted; i.e., sent to gulags. They were, in fact, permitted to go to church.

The Soviets, however, marginalized Christians by excluding them from participation in the public arena. Active discrimination precluded Christians from getting college educations and professional jobs.

The dirty secret: The USSR had perfect "separation of Church and State", which is exactly what the Left wants.
