Welcome to the 21st Century!

Posted by on July 14, 2006

Today I received a call around 8:20am explaining that was about have a visitor at my home.  I dropped everything and rushed home.  Who was making this demand on my time?  What could possibly drag me away from my workplace(about anything really but that’s another matter)?  Why it was the cable guy of course.  Getting cable TV isn’t something that I’m altogether thrilled about.  I’m sure I’ll still miss the outrageous options from the satelite but the satelite didn’t offer me one thing that I DESPERATELY needed….BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS!

Yep, that’s right, uh huh…I am now the proud owner of a 512kbps downstream/128kbps upstream cable connection!  W00T!  So…as I sit here waiting for the 30mb download to finish I thought I might fire off this missive explaining that this 30mb download will take something like 5 minutes to complete.;)

I’ve never been much of an online gamer because, well, it sorta sux to play on dialup.  But now…NOW…I might just have to check something out.

W00t!  Now I can play with Rainbow tables!!!  W00T!  Now I can check out the offerings of Malware that fly around everywhere!  W00T!  Now I can setup my honeypot!  Scan the world(with proper authorization of course…ahem)!

Good for you! A slow Internet connection sucks. I’m lucky enough to have a 6mb/724kps connection (yeah I know) it’s s,oking fast most of the time although cable does tend to swing up and down a little. Be sure to monitor your speed for awhile and make sure you are getting what you pay for. Mine was awful when I first switched to cable (from DSL) and I got a months credit on my bill for the crappy speed.

Rainbow tables you say? Get “Ophcrack” instead (google for the URL, couple of articles on my site as well), same concept and alot smaller. And I recommend the “nepenthes” honey pot for malware (google again) and I have some links in the “online tools” section you can use to help with both of these. (not a shameless plug for my site. I just dont want to post 15 URLs here for you 😉

    Enjoy 😉
